Motorcycle Leather & CORDURA® Care Guide

Proper care can help motorcycle clothing maintain its appearance, comfort, durability and performance for longer. Leather and CORDURA® require different cleaning and maintenance methods, so it is important to use the correct care routine for each material.

 Leather Motorcycle Gear Care

Premium motorcycle leather should be cleaned and conditioned regularly, particularly after exposure to rain, dirt, road dust or excessive moisture.

Cleaning Leather

  • Remove loose dirt and dust with a soft, dry cloth.

  • For light cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and gently wipe the surface.

  • For heavier dirt, use a leather-specific cleaner suitable for the type of leather.

  • Never soak leather or place it in a washing machine.

  • Test any cleaning product on a small, hidden area first.

Conditioning Leather

Leather can lose natural oils over time, especially with frequent use. Apply a suitable leather conditioner periodically to help maintain flexibility and reduce the risk of drying or cracking.

Avoid using household oils, solvents, detergents or unsuitable chemical products, as these may damage the leather's finish.

Drying Leather

If leather motorcycle clothing becomes wet:

  1. Gently remove excess moisture with a soft cloth.

  2. Allow the garment to dry naturally at room temperature.

  3. Keep it away from radiators, heaters, hairdryers and direct high heat.

  4. Do not store the garment until it is completely dry.

High heat can cause leather to become stiff, shrink or crack.

🧥 CORDURA® Motorcycle Gear Care

CORDURA® fabrics are designed for demanding use and are commonly found in motorcycle jackets, trousers and other protective riding equipment.

Cleaning CORDURA®

  • Check the garment's care label before washing.

  • Remove removable armour before washing where the manufacturer's instructions require it.

  • Close zips, fasteners and Velcro® before cleaning.

  • Use a mild detergent suitable for technical fabrics.

  • Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals and fabric softeners unless specifically permitted by the garment manufacturer.

  • Do not use excessive heat when drying.

For machine washing, always follow the specific manufacturer's care instructions, as different CORDURA® garments can contain waterproof membranes, coatings, liners and protective components requiring different treatment.

Maintaining Waterproof Performance

If your CORDURA® motorcycle jacket or trousers has a waterproof membrane or water-repellent finish, repeated washing and use can affect its water repellency.

Use only products recommended for technical motorcycle clothing when restoring or maintaining water repellency. Never assume that every CORDURA® garment has the same waterproof construction.

🛡️ Important: Protect the Armour

Before cleaning motorcycle apparel, check the manufacturer's instructions regarding CE protectors and armour. Removable armour should generally be removed before washing when the garment's instructions require it.

Allow all components to dry completely before reinstalling the protectors.

📦 Storage Tips

For both leather and CORDURA® motorcycle clothing:

  • Store garments in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place.

  • Keep clothing away from prolonged direct sunlight.

  • Do not store damp or wet gear.

  • Avoid compressing protective clothing for long periods.

  • Hang jackets using a suitable strong hanger.

  • Make sure all protective components are correctly positioned before riding.

Final Care Advice

The best way to extend the life of motorcycle apparel is to clean it regularly, follow the manufacturer's care label and use products appropriate for the specific material.

Leather requires gentle cleaning and conditioning, while CORDURA® generally benefits from careful washing and protection of its technical construction. With the right maintenance, quality motorcycle gear can remain comfortable, functional and presentable through many rides.
